Matt has worked for some of the UK’s top film and tv composers. He orchestrated for Tom Howe on Series 2 & 3 of BBC’s The Great British Bake Off, now one of the most watched shows on tv, as well as on Series 1 & 2 of Four Rooms for Channel 4 and History’s Mankind: The Story of All of Us.
In 2012 Matt composed the score for Alex and Oli Santoro’s horror short The Other Side, which received six nominations at the British Horror Film Festival as well as being accepted into the 2013 Screamfest LA and Telluride Horror Show film festivals. Also in 2012 Matt scored the music for Tim Marlow on Lucian Freud’s Portraits for Sky Arts.
Other short films include Knowing (Dir. Anton Whittingham) and Patrick Oke’s The Eye and the Looking Glass.
Additionally, Matt’s music has featured on a number of production library albums. He provided original sound design for the behind-the-scenes video of Katy Perry’s Glamour Magazine September 2010 covershoot as well as original sound design and a remix of Kylie Minogue’s single All The Lovers for the behind-the-scenes video of her BlackBook Magazine June/July 2010 covershoot, both directed by photographer Simon Emmett.
Based in London, Matt started out in music behind the drums, playing for various eclectic pop and rock bands. He was fortunate enough to have performed at several distinguished venues across the capital such as the Camden Barfly. Matt went on to train in music composition and technology at the University of Hertfordshire, a prestigious hub for contemporary and commercial music, deciding to embark on a career in composing for film and tv.
Matt’s compositional style is evocative, colourful and, as a keen drummer, heavily influenced by percussion. He likes to combine pulsating rhythms with orchestra and augment with electronic synths and lush, resonating harmonies. Matt constantly strives to produce bespoke music that is sensitive to the needs of the picture, and continues to deliver an original and captivating sound.
