Charlie is an emerging and sought after composer based in London. Most recently he wrote the music, alongside Jack Halama, for Fulwell 73/Netflix’s upcoming documentary series ‘Sunderland Til I Die’.
In 2018 he began working with Natalie Holt, assisting her on a number of projects including Boomerang TV’s ‘The Happos Family’ and ITV’s feature documentary ‘Gun No.6’. He scored his first feature film in the spring of 2018 – John Langridge’s horror, 13 Graves, (Drop Dead Films). In the summer he scored Shai Ben-Dor’s documentary short ‘The Long Trail Out’ (Independent).
Charlie’s life in music started as child when he began learning the violin. Performing music in orchestras inspired him to make his career in music and he graduated from Durham University having specialised in composition, and learning skills in sound design, world music and orchestration. Charlie started working on film alongside his degree, scoring an award-winning commercial for Haagen Dazs in Singapore, ‘When You Know You Know’, directed by Bennett Johnson (2014).
Since graduating he has worked on the BFI’s Britain On Film project, and enjoyed frequent collaborations with director Shirley Day on short films, composing for The Compliment (2016) and sound editing for Role Play (2016), a semi-finalist in the Hollywood Screenings Film Festival.
“I have worked with Charlie on a series of projects and his knowledge of musical composition and the way he applies himself to each new project never ceases to impress. He is able to work to a brief, deliver within a quick time frame, and adjust compositions in line with feedback. His wide range of music and his talent as a composer mean that when I am struggling to put my finger on what exactly is required, Charlie is able to put forward a series of suggestions, and always hits the nail on the head. He’s a real pleasure to work with, and able to work collaboratively with the whole production team. Charlie’s music is the bedrock of our latest production. He has an awesome talent as a composer, whilst remaining delightful to work with and a great team player. I highly recommend him and certainly intend to work with Charlie again.” – Shirley Day, Producer
